The Value of Time: Beyond Dollars and Cents
Everyone acknowledges the importance of budgeting money and spending intentionally. But what about how we spend our time? In the midst of our daily hustle, time stands as our most precious resource. We can always make more money, but time is finite — in this respect, how we spend our time arguably holds more weight than managing our finances. Learning how to get intentional with how we plan our days creates a sense of time abundance that will create infinite possibility.
Living in Alignment: Intentional Time Investment
Intentionally investing our time means aligning our actions with what truly matters: our values, passions, and purpose. It's about making every hour count, shaping our days in a way that reflects who we are, what we stand for, and what we want to create in our lives. Without making an intentional plan, the minutes, hours, days, and years may slip by without our consent; leaving a sense of loss and lacking. By creating conscious plans for our days we’ll feel satisfied, accomplished, and a peaceful sense of control.
Calendars as Compasses: Directing Our Days with Purpose
Blocking off time on our calendar isn't just about organizing tasks; it's a commitment to prioritize what's important. It's a strategic move to ensure our essential tasks and meaningful activities have a dedicated space, allowing us to make progress on what truly matters. When was the last time you scheduled a date night, or time to settle in with yourself to read your favorite book, or color with your children? How about time to commit to that project for work that is coming up, or to be fully prepared for the next presentation you are giving?
Decision-Free Living: Freeing the Mind through Scheduling
By sticking to our intentionally planned calendar, we alleviate the mental burden of constant decision-making. Following a set plan frees our minds from indecision, offering us clarity and peace of mind—a life where we can move forward confidently. When we are able to constrain our brain to focus on what is scheduled for this particular 30 minutes, we give ourselves the gift of focus. We relieve ourselves of all the other tasks, and effectively and efficiently complete the task at hand (whether that is washing dishes, reading to our children, writing a proposal, or scheduling appointments). We can focus, complete, and move on rather than being distracted by all-the-other-things.
